Patrick and I put the dogs in the car yesterday and had a really nice afternoon “out East”. The sunshine was lovely! We drove up to the Salmon River Falls in Orwell and quickly realized that just because there’s no snow left in Oswego, that doesn’t mean there’s no snow in the Eastern part of the county, hah. We ended up walking the dogs along the Salmon River Falls trail in our sneakers.. trying our best to avoid sinking in the foot-deep snow, haha. We weren’t entirely successful, but we couldn’t complain. The weather was so nice, the dogs were happy, and the trail was actually packed down pretty well – as long as we stayed in the middle. :)

When we left the falls, we headed back into the village of Pulaski. I just love it there! The original downtown buildings, the curvy streets and sweet little North and South Parks have so much character.. It would be a dream to buy and restore some of those structures someday. Patrick and I talk about it all the time! Imagine buying that movie theatre.. Such potential. Anyone want to be my financial backer? You won’t be disappointed! I promise! ;)

Every day when we walk the dogs, I bring my camera with me. You never know when a beautiful photo op. will show itself!

Personally, I loved this wooden privacy fence and the way the levels of the sidewalk blocks go back and forth into the distance.

Rice Creek and Fallbrook

As you can tell from many of my posts to this blog, my husband and I – along with our families – plan most of our recreational activities so that our dogs can enjoy them, too. Honestly, it’s so much fun to see the dogs enjoying themselves so thoroughly that it’s just not the same when we go without them!

Rice Creek and Fallbrook are property of SUNY Oswego, and both locations (which are adjacent to each other on over 400 acres of land) are very dog-friendly. :)

Obviously, when bringing your dog places where he or she will be off-leash, use courtesy and common sense. If your dog isn’t generally friendly with or tolerant of other dogs, keep him or her on a leash. Be responsible. Also, obviously, bring poop bags. Picking up poop is only a big deal if you make it a big deal, so don’t make it a big deal. It’s part of life, and it’s part of being a responsible dog person… AND responsible dog people make dog people, in general, look good. :)

Patrick and I had a beautiful afternoon at the Salmon River Falls with the dogs. I just can’t get enough of this place. The scenery is spectacular – I feel so lucky to have such extreme natural beauty within such a short distance from home. :)

Apple Grove Country Store

If you’re in the village of Mexico, turn onto Route 3 North, and in about a mile or so, you’ll happen upon this gem – The Apple Grove Farm store! I bought the best blueberries, ever, from this little store (so plump and so sweet!), and they sell so many great little treats – from apple butters and herbed dipping oils to homemade pies and fudge, fresh-picked fruit (of course) and little country gifts! Oh! They also have New York State cheeses, local maple syrups and honeys and so much more. It’s totally worth your time to head out there and see all of the great things that this charming country store has to offer. I love this place! :)
